This past winter I installed a newly rebuilt engine in my "3", break it in
according to list members and after returning from Mid-Ohio my oil pressure
dropped from 70 at speed to under 40, dropped from 40 at idle to 10, I changed
the oil & filter using only Castrol 20/50 for many years as well as a top of
the line "Fram" filter, well I recheck and all seems fine, go for a ride and
have 65 lbs under way and 45 at idle, then after 20 minutes of driving it just
plunged to 45 underway and 10 at idle, came home and called Ken Gilanders @
British Frame & Engine as well as Brian Schlroff @ Power British, it did not
take either of them 30 seconds to tell me what was wrong as both diagnosed the
exact same 2 faults, clean the ball/spring relief valve in the filter head and
throw that @#$# Fram oil filter away, I did as instructed, my local dealer was
O/S on the "Purolator" so I have a gold seal NAPA filter (temporary) and 75lbs
of pressure underway and 35lbs at idle, I still find it hard to believe about
"Fram" filters, but it has been proven to me now, many thanks to both Ken G. &
Brian S. for their great expert knowledge and so very kind help, and thanks to
this list for allowing me to meet them, now TRF summer party is a reality.
