Hi gang. Its been a while since I have dropped a question on this group of LBC geniuses mainly because my spitfire has been running pretty well.
I hope you don't mind a little question about my lawn tractor. I bought a used Simplicity tractor about a year ago and from the beginning I experienced battery problems. The charging circuit just wasn't working. So about once a month, I would go hook up the charger and recharge the battery. The other day after charging it overnight, I tried to start it and all that happened was that the starter motor spun without engaging the fly wheel. I got sick of playing with it and called the service guy. He came out and did some diagnostics and determined that my battery was spinning the starter in the wrong direction. Instead of pushing the gear on the starter toward the flywheel it was pulling it in toward the starter. The battery is properly installed in the tractor and the cables are hooked up properly. The serviceman put in a new battery and everything worked fine. (I still have the charging problem with the mower but that's another issue.) The only thing I can figure out is that I had a completely dead battery and reversed my charger jaws. In doing so, I charged the battery and reversed the battery polarity. IS THIS POSSIBLE?? Looking forward to your inputs.
