but it had a home made sort of bracket to mount it.

As for rebuilding your existing one, check your local parts stores.  The rebuild kits 
are surprisingly available.  I would not recommend the Vicky Brit kit.  The one I got 
from them had deformed seals and did not work.

Do beware there is an issue with the rebuild kits in that  the TR-6 kit is nearly 
identical, and a number of vendors have combined the kits, to the Spitfire, and 
possibly GT-6 detriment.  The kit seals do fit, but are extremely tight.  Excessive 
drag results, with the poor pedal response.  It would be worth your while to check on 
the TR-6 rebuild kit part number and ensure they are not the same.
