So my synchros are grinding just a little bit, and I'm thinking before finding someone to tear down and rebuild the transmission, perhaps I should try just changing out the trans fluif. Boy would that make me a happy camper!
So, looking at MTL's website, are you using "MTL" or "MT-90"? Also - it sounds a whole lot easier to pop the shifter out than to access the "inaccessium" filler plug by removing the tranny cover (and carpets and vertical dash support and various inner trim bits). Any gotchas or downside to filling from the top? Is there an over-filling potential? (and would that necessarily be a bad thing?) Thanks for the advice! -Jim '75 Spitfire 1500 -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Henry Stike Sent: Sunday, April 11, 2004 11:06 AM To: Andrew Beck Cc: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: Spitfire Gear Box Oil The filler plug is on the side of tranny, or you can pop the shifter out and fill it from top, also we have been using a product called "Redline MTL" in the spit. Did some reading before and this stuff works great as it doesnt get as thick as normal gear oil and is easier to shift and synchros dont grind anymore when shifting. There have been discussions on the best fluid before and I have been led to believe that some of the SAE 90 stuff will destroy the brass stuff in the tranny.
