John, As well intentioned as your shop may be, it is very difficult to remove the hubs without using the proper tool and end up not destroying them. Normal pullers put too much stress on the hub surfaces and will usually bend it.
I'd take it somewhere else just to be on the safe side. There may be someone in your area that as one of these tools so check your local resources (clubs, etc) to see if you can find one. I have one if you are anywhere close to Southern Arizona. I got a bearing set from Spitbits, and am having the work done by a reputable shop, but not one that specializes in Triumphs. Everywhere there is warnings about the steps to removal and replacement of bearings. Haynes wants you to have a special hub removal tool. My repair people assure me they can get the job done, after looking at the steps in the Haynes book. Is it as difficult as it made out to be? They make it sound impossible, but obviously, lots of us are driving around with good rear wheel bearings. Does anyone have any experience with 155/13 Cooper Sport GTL tires with a Spitfire?
