Thanks and a tip of the hat to Joe Curry for this excellent piece of
advice:
First off, if the gauge reads top of the scale with the key on and the
engine cold, disconnect the wire from the sender and see if it goes
down
to the bottom of the scale. If it does not, you have a short in the
sender wire grounding that leg of the circuit. That should be easy to
fix.
Every time someone contributes such a clear and simple diagnostic
procedure,
I wonder why they aren't included in any of the manuals I own.
Then I remember - that's why the Internet was created.
