I had a stripped hole in my filler block, where the bolts from the oil pan go up into it. I pulled the pan, removed the block, and heli-coiled both of those bolt holes. (The horizontal holes that take the screws from the timing chain cover were not stripped, probably because people used screwdrivers instead of wrenches on them.)
After I was done, this area was 100% leakproof, and I am happy that I will never have to worry about having the problem re-appear. Of course, I put sealers on the bolts, so oil wold not leak past them. So I definitely recommend going to the trouble to remove the oil pan and the filler block, and fixing it right.
