Okay, I have tackled another "first time" project (for me anyhow) on my 74 Spitfire - rebuilding the brake master cylinder. I have figured out I have the "early type" of tandem master cylinder. I have been following the instructions as per the Haynes manual, but I have officially passed the two hour point in failing to extract the secondary piston from the master cylinder unit. Is there some of secret to extracting this? The Haynes manual doesn't allude to one. Any input from someone with more experience on this issue would be appreciated. ==AM== Jim, have you removed the Allen-head screw on top of the cylinder body? I think it's 7/16" or something like that. It holds the tipping valve and, therefore, the secondary piston. After that, you might need to whack the open end against a wood block, and the secondary piston should make its way out. --Andy Mace *Mrs Irrelevant: Oh, is it a jet? *Man: Well, no ...
