I recently rebuilt an 1147 CC Spitfire Mark II engine for my Herald. It now has about 3,000 miles on it. I seem to be getting noise from the new timing chain. I expect that it is not a very good one even though it was new when I installed it. I am thinking about upgrading to a duplex chain but it appears that the lower gear is different on the early engines such as I have (FC 50XXX).
Has anyone else tried this upgrade? I see that Canley Classics list a duplex gear for an early engine but I am in California so if it is required is there anyone in the USA who carries this item?
