About 15 years ago I replaced the chain on my 1300.
Then about 5 years ago, I found a small fragment of
chain (half of one roller) when I changed the oil. So
naturally I had to replace it again.

The problem is that the chain design is pretty
marginal, and the aftermarket replacement chains are
not especially well made. Maybe with luck you can
find a NOS stock chain that will be reliable.

But note that the chain is always rather noisy because
of that tension spring. Maybe your chain is OK, and
the spring is falling apart.
