I have started having some weird behaviour with the gearbox (non-overdrive) in my 1980 Spitfire. When in 3rd gear the shift lever moves around when I transfer from coasting to applying power. It started as a slight movement but has progressed to jumping in a small circular pattern. It only does it in 3rd gear. Shifting into 3rd is normal for the most part, but there has been a couple of times in the last month that it would just grind when trying to shift into 3rd. That may or may not be related.
Any ideas on what would be causing the jumping shift lever? If so, is this something I need to get fixed right away or can it wait for awhile? I just had the transmission rebuilt last year due to worn syncros for 1st and 2nd. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. Chad Edwards 1980 Spitfire Your messages not reaching the list?
