You are right! There is a difference in the two pieces. In the attached pic, the right end is flat for about one inch and the other end is flat for about two inches. I inspected my Spit and found the longer flat end is at the center console support and the shorter flat end is at the A-Pillar. Both ends sit on top of the brackets with a small bolt and nut securing the crash pad to the car.
