I've never had any problem knocking them out with a few dead blows from a hammer. Is there enough left to do this? I'm not sure how you are using a tool that ends up with it bent.
No need to remove the hub, the old one can be slipped out the back and the new one slipped in. A lug nut and a stack of washers will pull the new one into place. Make sure the hub isn't damaged so the knurled part stays in place - it's a really crappy feeling when you go to un-do a lug nut and it just spins. Good luck!
