It sounds like the clutch is not releasing completely. If it were slipping 
the clutch would definitely be worn out but in this case the problem may be 
the hydraulic system. Is there more free play in the pedal than usual and 
is the engagement point closer to the floor? If so you will need to replace 
the hydraulic system which is a much easier job than the clutch itself. Not 
sure about 98s, in earlier years the hydraulic system was serviced as a 
complete unit consisting of the master and slave cylinders and connecting 
hose, it was not possible to replace either cylinder separately or bleed 
the system in the car.
