Greetings fellow list members,

I'd like to take a quick few moments to mention some important operational
considerations and instructions for using this SPORRS list:

Please do not CC: (Carbon Copy) list members upon replying to posts, because
doing so sends them more than one identical copy of the same message to
their mailbox. Some list members have a limit on the space available in
their mailboxes.

Please do NOT post specific SPORRS replies to other lists or news groups,
and do not simultaneously post to more that one list at once. If you would
like to post something similar to other sources, please do so with a
separate post. releasing the SPORRS addresses to the open Internet will
bring us SPAM on this list from every get-rich-quick scam artist that knows
how to use list servers (all of them).

Please take a few minutes to read through the updated SPORRS list info file
that I have provided to you below. You can get the current version of this
file at any time by sending a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
with 'info sporrs' as the only body of your message (no signatures).

Jim's fine administrative efforts have resulted in a new additional shorter
address name for this SPORRS list on the itchy computer, so you may now post
to that address also: [EMAIL PROTECTED] without the 'itchy' part for
your convenience.

Thanks for taking the time to read this important information, and please
tell your friends about this SPORRS list. Have fun! :)

Regards,
Dave Cohen

<UPDATED SPORRS INFO FILE>

Welcome to the SPORRS mailing list!

What is SPORRS?:
SPORRS is an acronym for Serious Photographers Of Railroad Related
Subjects. The SPORRS list is the ideal place to discuss railroad
photography and your related railfan adventures!

To Subscribe:
Send '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' a message with the words
'subscribe sporrs' in the body of your message. Make sure there
is no other text in the body of your message (e.g. signatures).

To Unsubscribe:
Send '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' a message with the words
'unsubscribe sporrs' in the body of your message. Make sure there
is no other text in the body of your message (e.g. signatures).

To Post a message to the SPORRS list:
Send your message to '[EMAIL PROTECTED]'. Do NOT send subscribe
or unsubscribe requests to '[EMAIL PROTECTED]', as those
must go to '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' instead.

For Help with the Majordomo list server:
Send a message to '[EMAIL PROTECTED]'
Jim Gilley -- SPORRS List Administrator

For More Information about SPORRS:
Send a message to '[EMAIL PROTECTED]'
Dave Cohen -- SPORRS List Founder

SPORRS Purpose:
A place for serious railfans to talk about issues related to
railfanning and taking pictures of trains. If you have a question
about film, processing, camera equipment, or other railfan gear,
SPORRS is the perfect place to post. You can post the results
of your latest trip, and let everyone know how you did. You can
also talk about books, magazines, videos, etc -- just about anything
related to railfanning.

For NEWS related to railroading, post to Foamer instead of SPORRS.

What is Foamer?:
Foamer is another automated mailing list that runs in a similar
manner to SPORRS. Foamer is dedicated to railroad industry
news. Please do NOT post photographic related topics to Foamer;
that's what SPORRS is for. For more information on Foamer,
send a message to '[EMAIL PROTECTED]'
with the words 'info foamer' in the body of the message.

SPORRS, like Foamer, is an OPEN list, which means anyone can
subscribe. There is no manager or director. The list is totally
automated.

Also note that you MUST be a subscriber of SPORRS to post a
message to it. This is intended to keep spammers out. One side
effect of this is that you cannot post from a different account than
you subscribe from. The same is also true of the Foamer list.

Please do NOT post a message to both Foamer and SPORRS. This would
be inappropriate because each list has a different theme, and many
people subscribe to both lists. Furthermore, you do NOT need to copy
(CC:) a message to someone who is already on the list, as they will
receive your posting directly from the list (i.e. they will get
two copies of the message if you CC: it).

A note from us:
Please feel free to tell all your friends about SPORRS. All we ask is
that when posting to SPORRS, please try to keep topics somehow related
to the SPORRS theme and try to be courteous and respectful of others.
There are very few rules, and they are listed below.

SPORRS Rules:
1) Please do not re-post or redistribute material from SPORRS without
the express permission of the material's author. Respect any and all
copyrights.
2) For liability reasons, we cannot allow commercially advertised items
for sale on SPORRS. Posting personal photographic equipment for sale
IS permitted for the other list members' convenience only. Please, no
on-list bidding; take these matters to personal E-mail.
3) Please do not post file attachments or binaries to SPORRS. The server
cannot redistribute file attachments to e-mail.

We are pleased to bring you this list, and we hope you enjoy it. This
list exists for all of us. Thanks!

Sincerely,

Dave Cohen, SPORRS List Founder
Jim Gilley, List Administrator
