My lab will 'snip' off the first few frames of a roll and develop it any way
that I want them to so that I can determine how I want the rest of the roll
developed later, like if I was unsure of my (critical) exposure (and the set
is torn down, subject history) or forgot what ISO that I exposed the roll
at.  I have never had to have this done yet.

Not that I can think of unless you forgot what speed you shot the whole roll
at.  It would only be usefull it seems for whole rolls that are shot in the
same controlled lighting conditions like a product shot in the studio.
