As long as we are talking books, lest I forget to mention David Plowden's "A Time of Trains." Even without looking at the excellent b&w photos in the book, Plowden's essay about riding the cab of what he believes was the last steam-powered passenger train on the GN is one hell of a piece of writing. I can pick up the book and read it over and over again.
I also think Greg McDonnell's books are a cut above most of the stuff being hawked out there. His latest, "Passing Trains" is great, but I think "Heartland" is a real winner, and the "U-Boat" book tells a good story without being a "book of lists" that most railfan locomotive books are. --> SPORRS: Serious Photographers of Railroad Related Subjects X-Mozilla-Status: 0001 Content-Length: 2042
