FWIW - my opinions... 1. Hyrail MILWAUKEE ROAD and the GRANDE book. To me, no one does layout work better than Dale Sanders. The books are alone worth the price of admission for the layout. Also, the photo choices are well made. Unlike some of the quickie hardcover books being released these days, these books are not simply 3/4 wedgies of action here and there. They went out of their way to get the best material possible and present it in a logical format. The text also covers material about OPERATIONS, which to me is sorely lacking in the above mentioned quickie books. Looking forward to the SP Oregon Division book, due out in the next month. Also, the BCRAIL book by Garden is similar to these.
2. Anything Benson and Steinheimmer - although you may want to label me a bandwagon person, these guys really are awesome. 3. SP+S by Austin and Dill (PFM) - A new book that is laid out quite well. I like the way they have integrated foldout rr maps into the books, as well as talk about operations. I don't like the ONLY DIESELS photo selection philosophy though. That gets old. You can also call me a bit grumpy (crabby?) - there are two sides to everything.
