I carry a small logging saw and a pair of pruning shears. Once I stake out I
a location I'll clear out any inconsiderate brush or small branches. Also in
lieu of a ladder, I've been known to climb on the roof or tailgate of my SUV
to get elevation. Another idea would be a tow strap. I scoffed at a friend
once when he threw one in my truck while loading his gear. On the last day,
we used it! After that trip I bought one for my self.
