Hey Everybody, I've really enjoyed the recent discussions regarding the stuff needed for photography and I'd like to add one small item to the list. A small line level, like you use when checking the level of a line or wire, comes in handy when you're trying to ensure that the camera is level. The level can usually be held or placed on a flat, horizontal surface on your camera to see how far off of level you are. I've tried tripods with the level indicators, but they just don't do the job for me. The line levels are pretty cheap (about $2.00) and are small enough to carry in your pocket or in the smallest pocket of a camera bag. When you don't have any straight vertical or horizontal surfaces to use for composition, these things can be a life saver.
As for other fans crowding the photo location, I don't run into that problem way down here in Mississippi. There just aren't enough of us down here to get in each other's way. Maybe that will end if some railfans head down this way to shoot the first CN power as it heads down to the land of cotton on the CN's new IC Subdivision.
