Steve Brown's post brings up an interesting thought...traveling light. Most of us consider the phrase "traveling light" as a description of the box we carry our flash equipment in.
However, there are times when you are limited in what you can bring on a railfan expedition--business trips, honeymoons, railfan trips where you will be riding the train instead of a car (novel idea), et cetera. What do you take when limited to one bag? My list is similar to Steve's. Camera is a Canon A-2. Lens is the Canon 28-105, and if I can spare the room, I'll throw the 80-200 in the bag. If I don't have room for that, the 28-105 works great by itself. I'll take a pocket-sized tripod, a Bogen clamp, electronic cable release, hand-held scanner, film, notebook, EXTRA BATTERIES and that's about it! It all fits nicely into a Tamrac Model 606 shoulder bag, which I can stuff into the corner of my suitcase (a bulletproof Halliburton) or carry with me. When even that's too much (business trips are a good example), I can get along with just the camera (without the VG10 grip) and lens and the pocket tripod. It all fits into the corner of a briefcase, wrapped in some bubble-wrap for protection. -> SPORRS: Serious Photographers of Railroad Related Subjects -> Web Site: http://www.anet-stl.com/acphotog/sporrs -> Message © SPORRS® 1998 - All Rights Reserved
