Polaroid Sprintscan Plus: $1799 (2700 dpi, 36 bit color, 3.4 optical
density)
Polaroid Sprintscan ES: $1499 (2700 dpi, 24 bit color, 3.0 optical density)
Polaroid Sprintscan LE: $799 (1950 dpi, 30 bit color, 3.0 optical density)

I think I stated that we have the LE at the campus, when actually we have
the ES there (the older ES models are the original Sprintscan, and do not
say ES on them anywhere - the new ones do). Prices listed are from PC
Connection, 1-800-800-5555.

If you want to see some examples (from the Plus model), check out the most
recent images added to the SPORRS site. The ones I scanned are labeled so
in their descriptions. I think the results are excellent. I still had to
do some work in Photoshop to get the scans the way I wanted them (as close
to the original slides as possible), but damn little on Greg's SP shot. I
went through the Photoshop plug-in Import option (Twain 32 bit) to scan
them directly into Photoshop 4.0 (you can just use Polaroid's software
though - it ain't PS, but it will get the job done too). I scanned them at
1350 dpi and at about 1952x1332 pixels, then I reduced them to 408x600
pixels (slight cropping by a few pixels was needed for the correct
proportions) and 72 dpi when I was finished doing minor corrections and
adding the copyright notices with the Photoshop Text Tool. Then I saved
copies of the files as JPGs for the web. I made the GIF thumbnails
(126x84) in about ten seconds each (Export GIF89a in Photoshop at 64 colors
- interlaced), directly from the JPG files (but you can do this from the
TIF files (original scans) too. This scanner took about 30 seconds to scan
each slide after each preview, which took about ten seconds each.

These things work great, I'm up doing my digital imaging class homework
with mine right now (and I'm about finished for this morning!). :)
