I'm somewhat surprised that there have been no responses to Ken Harrison's
comments about the Eastrail shows.

Because I was not there, I can not agree or disagree with his opinions of
any of the presentations..except one; Greg McDonnell's. I am in total
agreement with Ken's assessment. I have seen that show and it is
outstanding. There are no other superlatives to express that presentation.
Ken is correct in that Greg has an "eye" for art or the unique shot. Greg
and I have done some shooting together. I have to admit that Greg sees a
shot potential that would have never occurred to me. Thanks to the fact
that Greg was there, I picked up ideas that would have never been in my mind.

One aspect of these slide shows where I am in total agreement with Ken is
the music volume. Why it is twice or three times what is needed has always
been beyond me. Believe it or not, I use earplugs at Winterail. I can
still hear everything quite nicely. The earplugs are the same that
railroads provide for locomotive crews. I will not be critical of music
choices; whatever someone wants to use is their choice..........but it
doesn't have to be of a level that it drowns out a 747 at the departure end
of a runway! One wonders if so many of the viewers of these shows have
been listening to "music" on these ghetto-blasters so long that now they
are so hard of hearing that they need the sound turned up to such
outrageous levels. Go figure. But Ken, you really nailed it on this topic.

As my initial, and only, disclaimer stated, I was not at Eastrail. But, I
really liked Ken's assessment of the whole affair. I think he told it as
he saw it, and he did it well. I hope he will do the same for this month's
Winterail.  Ken and I both know which one of the shows will be dynamite;
the Surf presentation by John Roskoski. We both saw it back in 1990 when
it brought down the house. As a "re-run", there is no reason that it will
not do the same this time. However Ken, please provide us with your
critique of Winterail. I, for one, will not find you guilty of bias if you
put Surf high on your list :-).
