Funny that this subject should come up. I have to give my "Railways of
Poland" presentation to a local group in a couple of months, and I'm
contemplating doing this.

The plan is to first scan the slides in. Then I will use Apple Media Tool
to create the presentation, complete with dissolves, music, etc. Once
finished, it will be burned to a hybrid CD-ROM so that the stand-alone
program will run on Wintel machines as well as Macs.

The final viability of this project depends on my being able to borrow my
employer's new stand-alone computer video projector!

The idea of digitizing such a show is pretty nice. You don't eliminate all
the equipment (still need a stereo/sound system, the computer, and the
projector), but you cut down on it (no slide trays, tape decks, dissolve
units, etc.). Plus your sound and visual media are all synched and right
there on the CD-Rom. It also opens other options, such as outputting to
video tape.

I've done a few smaller test shows already, and this method seems to hold a
lot of potential.

I'd be interested in hearing from others who have interests in this area.
