Just another important note about flying with film and the new CTX X-ray
equipment.

The manufacturer acknowledges that it ruins all film, not just high speed
film. It was on the news in several places last night. Kodak and Fuji are
discussing options with PPofA, ASMP and APA. In the USA, you legally have
the right to a hand check, so use this right and do not allow your film to
be X-rayed at the airport. Remember to allow extra time at check in to
avoid any confrontation problems with airport security. Obviously if you
show up at the gate at the last minute, in a hurry, nervous and irritated,
then you will look suspicious to them and you will probably stand a good
chance of missing your flight then. In other countries, they do not give
you the right to a hand search, so lead bags are your only hope, but don't
check your film, carry it on and have it X-rayed by the gate security
rather than the baggage people with the more powerful equipment is the best
advice.

There are six installed in the US already, and more on the way.

Here is the company's info that makes the new device:

InVision Technologies, Inc.
7151 Gateway Blvd.
Newark, CA 94560

Their contact page on the web site is:
http://www.invision-tech.com/pr/pubcontact.htm

Click on 'Press Releases' and look at the CTX type equipment.

The company just makes and sells the stuff, so they are not solely to blame
for this problem.

There is a lot more info that I didn't put on here (and this isn't the
place for it). I just want to warn you about this problem because I know
that some of us fly around the country either for business or to shoot
trains for a hobby, however, SPORRS is not the place to discuss or rally
for any changes in this area. Just don't check your film in baggage, and
have what you carry on hand searched.
