Thanks, Greg,
for all your comments regarding my photos. I'll try to address your
questions about them. The Burnside shot was a piece of cake in 1983, and
I was able to sit on the bluffs on both sides of the track for hours (but
they ran no trains while I was on the other side of the tracks, much to my
dismay-the scene I wanted was the subject of the 1983 NS Calendar). It was
easy enough to access those areas then, but I haven't been there since
then,
either. Well worth checking out, though!
The KCS-with-powerpoles shot was done with a 70-210, and if you use a
300,
you kind of lose the bridge. The KCS did use an altered shot with the
poles and
lines removed digitally, but it was as much to demonstrate the power of
digital
manipulation, which, at the time of the photo's publication, was completely
new
to me (1991). I tend to prefer that scene without the poles, too, although
I am
not always against such features in a given scene. They can add flavor if
one
is creative.
Good day to you all,
Keith & Lisa Wilhite
Kansas City, Missouri
