Sounds like what happens when you send film to Kodak these days, too.

You know, if you just have to shoot Kodachrome time after time, no matter
where it goes, no matter how long it takes and no matter what it comes back
looking like, then I guess none of the above really matter. Perhaps most
of the fun of Kodachrome is the mystery and suspense? :)

Maybe I just don't understand because I get consistent local E-6 back every
time in a few hours with my roll and shot numbers, name & copyright notice
and film type already printed on the plastic mounts that only hold film
straight and allow you to remove the film easily with a 50 cent plastic
tool so that it can be scanned out of the mount if necessary without
slicing, cutting with a blade, taping back up or remounting with a hot
iron. And I miss those round cornered cardboard mounts that cut off the
corners of my scans when I scan slides in cardboard mounts.

BTW, I have a few good personal examples now of faded Kodachrome slides
from over exposure to UV light (projection, scanning, sitting on light
tables, etc. over the last few years).

Kodachrome is great. For all of the handling and processing considerations
above, and now I'm afraid to shine light through them. I'm sorry, I
forgot, what was today's advantage of Kodachrome again?
