I never even implied that anyone get any expertise from a camera store.  There
is usually little experience behind the counter.

Your big Canon purchase is unusual; consumables like new filters and gadgets
and other stuff that makes one appear as a regular is what will get you the
favors now and then.  Volume usually doesn't matter.

I, too, would go to the "beards" if I was spending $5000 -- those guys are
hungry,  and they'll work their tuches off for that big an order.  The little
guys just can't compete, or don't know how, or won't make enuff profit on that
big a deal to be worth messing with.  I showed a film ad to Dover Photo the
other day, and they showed me their cost, which was higher than the price in
the ad.
