I had just purchased a Bogen tripod apron. The site was extremely windy and I let go of the tripod to pick up some stones (they are plentiful on the ROW around Langtry,TX) to put in the apron. The whole thing blew over down slope, landing on the lens and ramming it into the mount. I could not separate them and had to take the whole thing to the Nikon repair facility in San Antonio. They in turn sent the body to Nikon which declared it DOA - damaged frame beyond repair. The Tokina was quite repairable and I still have it. I might add, for the skeptics in a recent thread on this doughty ball head, that the Bogen pistol grip did not move a mm although it absorbed the full moment of the crash.
