He dutifully used his tripod at some locations, but equally often he was standing or sitting like a good rifleman squeezing off shots. He could have had a really long and heavy 50mm lens on, but it looked more like a 200 or perhaps 300mm. He could have been shooting really fast film, but he did mention color slides - at least I think he did. My point is simply this.. A tripod will get you a steadier picture with most good slide film, but there are lots of cases where the moment calls for a steady hand and a bit of luck. Personally I have found that a sturdy monopod matches the kind of shooting that I like. I lose a few pictures, but then I don't lug a tripod around all day either.
