Mark,
Thanks for the quick come back. I grew up in Wisconsin and hadn't
heard the hard water fishing comment, but the cheese head gear strikes
close to home. We have one just to prove that have a self-effacing
sense of humor. Perhaps more on that topic on a non-SPORRS e-mail
message in the future. But at least Rockford is centrally located
between the Mississippi River and Chicago.
Thanks for the info on the BNSF Savanna stuff. I try and swing by
there at least once or twice a year as I drive back-n-forth to Wisconsin
(trains and Packer games). I've noticed the same traffic pattern and
suspected commuter stuff in Chicago were screwing influencing the
traffic. The town of Savanna is just a jump off point for the Palisades
north of town. I've had some luck catching east bound traffic in good
light and excellent foliage 2-6pm in October. perhaps not the busiest
time but the light and scenery are nice.
I've decided that I need to make a weekend trip up there sometime in
July for a BNSF pumpkin fix. Rick Newton (alas Mr. Fig, another SPORRS
guy) has also expressed an interest in this type trip. The poor boy
looks like he's suffering from BNSF withdrawal (symptoms show up in less
than a week). What do you think Rick, road trip?
I use to go to school in Platteville and kick myself for not being
into trains where I was less than an hour from the Palisades.
I also want to spend a day or two between Prairie de Chein and Lac
Crosse chasing the BNSF this summer/fall.
