Hopefully there won't be a burning room after the sprinkler retro ... Seriously, what exactly is a burning room and why can't you take piping through it?
Actually, the definition of a semi-automatic standpipe system can be found in both the 2003 (3.3.21) and 2007 (3.3.12.5) editions of NFPA 14: "A standpipe system that is attached to a water supply capable of supplying the system demand at all times and that requires activation of a control device to provide water at hose connections." Essentially, it's a preaction standpipe system and the actuation of the valve is manual in lieu of automatic detection as is used in sprinkler systems. The remote actuator can be a pull station or even a hose valve (non-interlock design) or an electronic device such as a pull station (single and double interlock designs). To clarify the definition and intent, the 2007 standard has been greatly enhanced by excerpting some of the preaction prescriptives from NFPA 13 - if you have the 2007, see section 5.2.3. I see a reference in NFPA 14 2003 section 5.4.3 to a "Semiautomatic-Wet" but no definition for one. I am open to suggestions. Looks like this little 4 story 32 room hotel is going to be spending a bundle on the remodel work. I am unable to reuse the existing standpipe as it could require passing a burning room the get to the existing location. The building is not sprinklered now but they are being added throughout. -- Best regards, Charles Thurston Coastal Fire Protection mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] _______________________________________________ Sprinklerforum mailing list [email protected] http://lists.firesprinkler.org/mailman/listinfo/sprinklerforum _______________________________________________ Sprinklerforum mailing list [email protected] http://lists.firesprinkler.org/mailman/listinfo/sprinklerforum
