It would appear that all you need do is start using 8' spacing on your
branchline two heads before the obstruction to make the 1'-0" move you say
you need. Then you can return to 8.5' or stay at the 8'.

Tom - you didn't indicate the ESFR spacing along the branchline or the
spacing of the branchlines. If the spacing along the branchlines are
greater than 8', maybe an additional row or 2 of sprinklers can be moved
and maintain the 8' minimum.
