And electrical clearances to the controller doors.
Too bad #20 doesn't specify minimums but they are getting better every
edition.
(I did 5 pumps since Sunday and only 1 pump room had enough space to put
down your tools.)

Subject: RE: FIRE PUMP ROOM ACCESSIBILITY

Every space or room is required to have a means of egress. Minimum
egress widths are prescribed by the building code. For a single means
of egress typically 36" exit access and 32" net clear doorway width.

There is also a provision prohibiting projections greater then 4" into
the required egress width.

Subject: FIRE PUMP ROOM ACCESSIBILITY

We have a small pump room that the owner REFUSED to enlarge during the
design phase of this project. Due to the structural engineer we were
forced
to move our stub in 1' closer to the wall and now the pump and panel
infringe on the doorway coming into the room. As it currently stands you
have to turn sideways in order to enter the room. Once you are in the
room
there is room.

NFPA 20 states the following in the appendix:

A.5.12.1.1 Most fire departments have procedures requiring operation of
a
fire pump unit during an incident. Building designers should locate the
fire
pump room to be easily accessible during an incident.

Firefighters please give me your opinions!
