David, same experience here with HDG, ARGH! Same deal, it was in the spec and the engineer insisted. Hot dipping threaded parts just screws up the threads. (pun couldn't be helped, sorry) ;)
We normally used zinc plated. Stainless was an option only if the owner was willing to pay the extra or the specs called for it specifically. Craig L.
