Just take a look at the USGS site and you'll see if yours is one of the top 20 states with earthquakes of 3.5 or greater. Everyone expects to see AK, CA and HI but youall from TX or IL or UT, NV or even Maine might be surprised.

Shake rattle and roll!

When the building calls out that it has a structural expansion joint we do
nothing but if it calls out for a seismic expansion joint I spec and also
design in a Metra-flex loop. We do it here with all three trades, Fire,
HVAC and Plumbing).

Subject: Building expansion joints

Common for larger buildings to have structural expansion joints. Rarely
(actually, never) have I seen an architectural/engineering plan call for
anything special when crossing them (plumbing, HVAC or sprinkler).

Is this something to be concerned about, or should I move on to something
else?
