NO! NO! NO! NO! NO!
The AHJ (Fire Marshal)is a law enforcement officer just like a police
officer. States will vary a bit as to the form of legalities but if you
have the written law on your side you are covered. Now you might have to
exercise your rights in either the appeals system or the court system. So
show him the code and leave it alone. The AHJ must take action to enforce
his requirements or real legal requirements. You don't have to prove your
innocence he has to start the legal proceedings. This must be done in
writing. He will either issue written orders to you to correct and you
request an appeal and/or he will write a citation and you go to the judge.
They cannot ask for whatever they want. We have to get the thought they can
ask for whatever they want out of the industry. They can only ask for what
the law says they can ask for.

It may not be a matter of arguing with the AHJ as they can ask for the test
if they wish. You need to meet with them (include the building owner) to
discuss and show him the minimum NFPA requirements.
