In Mil Speak, that means when you initially turn the system on or "Pressurize" the piping.

What's the definition of "activating", sprinkler discharge such as
during a fire scenario as opposed to shutting one down for service and
placing it back into service? I can completely understand the
de-energization of critical equipment in a sprinkler discharge scenario
as triggered by the water flow indicator tied into equipment controls
via the fire alarm system or something like that.

Sorry, just playing devil's advocate.

IF YOU ARE UNDER THE GUIDANCE OF THE UFC 3-600-01, (adopted by the Dept.
of the Airforce April 2003) take heart!

6-8.1.1 Automatic sprinkler protection, Requires all power to be
disconnected from and sensitive electronic equipment when activating a
fire sprinkler system. (If your facility is "Mission Critical" they
won't want to do that! Negotiate! By their own standard your not allowed
to "Activate the system unless they power down all equipment, much less
Test at 200 Psi!
which is not required since all testing is referenced to the
requirements of NFPA 13, in UFC 3-600-01)

Check before you leap! I understand a newer version has been released,
but I don't have a copy yet.

Hi Group,

A little more information about the building. It is on an Air Force
site
and the Fire Chief, who is the AHJ, is requiring the hydrostatic test
after the Omega heads were replaced. The fire sprinkler head
replacement
did not emcompass the entire building because there are mixed heads
within
the building. No single area can be isolated because the replaced
heads
were at random places throughout the building. Many of the existing
heads
remain.

The building is full of very sensitive electronic equipment and a
ruptured
fitting or pipe would cause damage to this equipment. No mention was
made
of a hydro test when we were awarded the job, but at the completion of
the
job the AHJ required it. We want to get paid, and the Air Force is
reluctant to indemnify us for any damage that might occur.

I think we are between a rock and a hard place. Any help from forum
members will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Martin Campbell
