Greg,
The exclusion in 13D does not make mention of a thermal barrier, but
it does in 13R and 13. (2002 versions)

Dale,
We are actually working on a 13d system and he let it slide. But when he
explained his decision and reasoning I HAD to get in to it to see if he was
correct on a broader scale. I think he is wrong but I see his reasoning.
For those interested - His reasoning is based on 8.15.8.1.1 which states
that bathrooms do not require sprinklers that do not exceed 55 sq ft, AND
that have walls and ceilings of noncombustible or limited-combustible
materials with a 15 minute thermal barrier rating.
The he defines thermal barrier in 3.3.18 and determines from this that there
must be a rated door there to meet the criteria.
Thanks,
Greg

You're right.
Our overall relationship with this FM is good, we did in our case just
ate heads and went on.
If enough contractors approach him in this argument, maybe he will see
the light.
We wish Greg the best of luck in this round.

Dale,
Let's try that again.
Don't feel bad. I've a badge thumper out here who claims that the
"least dimension" in a closet should be measured from the face of the
wall to the outside, yes, I said outside, of the closet door.
Sometimes, you simply have to shake your head, and just do what they
want.
I sure wish it were otherwise.
