Ron-
If it helps, the word panel is SINGULAR, and does not necessarily require
one panel for each joint. Just that A PANEL be shown on the drawings (marked
"by others", if I were you) somewhere so that an access to that space where
the grooved couplings are installed.

Obviously it could be impractical that someone could squeeze thru and get to
ALL couplings, but its also impractical that we could actually fit spkr pipe
in the "negative clearance" already existing in the space where the 12" duct
sits in a 10" space. So I'd show one PANEL and assume their maintenance guy
is as snake-like as the contractor that thinks you're going to install
accessss panels for him.

"US Corps of Engineers Albuquerque District Specifications for Bureau of
Indian Affairs Kayenta Community School Replacement Navajo County,
Arizona"

Section 13930A.3.4.7 Pipe Joints: After referencing dial calipers,
go/no-go gauges, narrow-land micrometer, NFPA #13 and various other
filler material the make grooving of pipe sound difficult the section
finishes like this.

"Grooved joints shall not be used in concealed locations such as behind
walls or ceilings, unless an access panel is shown on the drawings for
servicing or adjusting the joint."

The RCP's do not show any access panels in the hard lids. I guess we
could show the panels on our drawings but then we would probably have to
provide them.

Thanks for your help.

Anyone out there had any luck getting relief from a COE spec requiring
an access panel at every grooved coupling located in concealed locations
above hard lids or in walls?
