Thanks for ruining my day Craig. If Lockwood Greene can't get drawings from
A&E folks, us normal guys don't stand a chance.

I too tried the PDF to DWG product but it didn't work well for me either. I
have a feeling it is a little more complicated than just "point & click" if
you really want it to work well and I don't have the time to learn it right
now.

I tried PDF to Dwg and it was a mess. EVERYTHING becomes a line segment
including text. Often actual lines become multi-segmented and editing
and cleaning up the drawings becomes a tiresome chore. Last job where
the A/E wanted extra money for his drawings I just referenced a pdf
converted to JPG. I went into a photo editor and cleaned up the JPG
real easy, referenced it into the AutoCAD file and then scaled it as
necessary. They would not pay me extra for the cost of cad files and I
wasn't going to redraw their whole mess for free.

Worst one I had to deal with was a local structural engineer, wanted
$700 per drawing. I told him he was absolutely out of his mind. Wanted
to tell him a few other things too but I'm just too nice a guy to do
that. ;)

As a "trick" for WalMart, if you can get the files in DWF format, as I
have on a few ocassions, you are set. There are several programs
available on the web to convert the DWF to DWG format. I have done 3
WalMarts in the last 12 months that we were able to get DWF files. It
saves a lot of time getting their backgrounds done.

Does anyone know why WalMart refuses to give out their DWG files, other
than because they can?

Did anyone ever try the PDF to DWG converter that was discussed on here
a few months ago?

The other issue is architects refusing to give cad files because of
liability or whatever (can you say Walmart?). I have a clause in my
standard contract that covers both. The dollar value I include is
somewhere around the value of my mortgage, so that typically makes
things disappear.
