Brian, The area of influence is dependent upon the components and the structure being able to withstand the force generated. For example, in wood truss construction the structural members may only be able to withstand 300 lbs of force while the EQ components may be able to handle 1700 lbs. You then would determine the area of influence based on what the structure can handle. This will mean that the braces are spaced 15 feet on center and not the 40 foot allowed per 13. Steel bar joist will handle a larger load as will wood beams or steel beams. Unfortunately, there is no code that explains what size, only how to get to that size.
