I'd worry more about the bulk mains in parallel to each other, never had a
problem (that I know of) WRT the Z's.

But two 8" feed mains running alongside 2 6" crossmains can add up to a lot
if you come straight up one riser bank with 'em.

Structural capabilities of the "z-purlins"? Can they support the branch line
size you'll need?

    Nominal depth of insulation?

The answer, BTW, is YES you can.
Deflector distance would be figured from the bottom of the NOMINAL depth
    of
insulation normally stretched from pinched to about zero at the roof/top
    of
purlin to x, nominal depth, at the midspan between 2 Z's.

If ya can't- I know we, and no doubt a lot of others, have a very
    serious
    problem.

I have been asked if we can install ESFR heads in a "Butler" type
    building
    with 10" purlins.

It appears that as long as we keep the deflectors 6" to 18" below the
    roof
deck (8" below the purlins), we should be OK.??

(We do not have the opportunity to use ESFR's with our normal jobs.)
