basement fire: you want a charged line
going down the hole. and if there is a
standpipe and you make the connection
with hose pack down there, you want that line charged
before passing through the door (if there
is a door to open). but dragging a charged
line down a stairway, let alone flaking out
a not-yet charged line, and then subsequently
hauling that charged second line through the door...

the mess is evident.

below grade fires are ugly to fight, especially
  if remote from the stairs.
better staging-area design in the stairs would be good
  for sub-grade levels.
now we know why sprinklers in basements are UNDERSTOOD.

too bad i can´t convice people around here to sprinkler
the storage areas (walls made of wood w/o gypsum
cover in some buildings) underneath grade. i have
jumped up and down till I am blue in the face, and they
look at me like I am a ... blue man. damn shame
i can´t make them understand. some day a fire
will explain what they have been missing.
