Dewayne, I had an AHJ pull the Uniform Mechanical code once and told me I had to have the sprinkler within 36" of the top of the exhaust stack. The exhaust duct stood 60" above the roof. I had to put a little A.F. loop in with a sprig-up in the exhaust duct. I don't have the UMC and can't remember the section. I just remember the sting.
