Russel, The problem is that you cannot directly connect a pressurized water system to a gravity system. Nor can you have a direct connection between a potable water system and a waste system. Even though the backflow device protects the potable water from the horrible sprinkler water it doesn't protect it from sewage and if you make a direct connection a waste line you've just directly connected your municipal water supply to your municipal sewage treatment plant. And to the dirtier end. What you want is a receiver of some sort with a proper air gap. The receiver has to accommodate the overflow from the pressurized system while it's running without overflowing. Think of a sink as a receiver between the pressurized piping of the water system and the gravity piping of the waste piping. The air gap between the faucet outlet and the flood rim of sink is to prevent backflow. The proper distance for an air gap is 2 and 1/2 times the diameter of the discharge orifice.
