Todd,

Sounds like the EE firm is consulting from a fire safety standpoint, i.e,
"sprinklers should be installed in these areas based on our fire
investigation findings".

I don't see an engineering issue there, it will be up to the fire protection
engineer to design the protection or refute the EE's findings.

On the other hand if the EE wrote; "an acme xyz sprinkler connected to abc
piping ...................." then I'd agree its sprinkler design.

Just my thoughts

Subject: Time to file a grievance?

I got an e-mail this morning form a client for whom I was bidding a
design for a large house. The system is not required, but several
people think it is a good idea. However, cost is now becoming an
issue. The e-mail started as follows: "We consulted with an
electrical engineering firm that is called in by
the major insurance companies to investigate and trace the cause(s)
of residential and commercial fires. They came back to us with the
following sprinkler head installation sites (locations) for ......"

So now EE firms are locating sprinklers? If I can gather enough info,
I may take this to the State. From what I have seen so far, this is
overtly wrong.
