I'm not a chemist nor do I play one on TV. But I'd be surprised if Viking would develop a system and have FM Global bless it with fuel being discharged from ESFR sprinklers, so I doubt it is an issue.
This is, of course, simply an observation. The Viking solution is special; and there are two acceptable antifreeze solutions with various concentrations for anticipated low temperatures. Your best source for an answer would be Noble Company. I'd call or email them later on when they open. Please post your findings, inquiring minds need to know! glc -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Todd Williams Sent: Tuesday, April 21, 2009 6:44 AM To: [email protected] Subject: antifreeze combustibility? There have been some rumors floating around about antifreeze solutions and I would like to know what is fact and what is fantasy. NFPA 13 (2007) references "The potential effectiveness of antifreeze and water mixtures controlling a fire has come into question.....". I have on FM Global rep (whose middle initials are BS) tell me that antifreeze solutions are flammable (not combustible, but flammable). What is the real poop? I am getting several calls from people wanting to convert wet systems to either dry or antifreeze in vacant spaces/buildings so they don't have to heat them. Todd G.
