Travis.

Just thought I'd mention it as it was a train of thought mentioned to me;
that there is a lot to be said for Double Interlock for larger freezer
operations as if there is accidental discharge (fork list error) then the
freezer has to be thawed out for clean up to take place. Stock can be
wasted, store operations severely impacted...Just a consideration when doing
your bean counting.

I guess since I'm posting here I should take a minute to both introduce
myself and thank the members of the forum. I've been receiving emails from
the forum the last couple of weeks and am very impressed with the level of
expertise on here. Was beginning to feel like a stalker:) but it seemed like
all the posts were getting excellent replies so I figured I just sit on the
side.

Based in Chicago myself. See some familiar names from the AS forum.

This one is multiple coolers / freezers. -10F to 40F, depending on the
area.

Travis,

Don't forget that a cooler doesn't need a dry system or even dry pendent
sprinklers provided it doesn't freeze. The bigger the cooler the more stable
the temperature.

Ok. I think I found my answers already. All preaction systems protecting
storage can not be gridded.

7.3.2.6 System Configuration. Preaction systems of the type described in
7.3.2.1(3) and all preaction systems protecting storage occupancies,
excluding miscellaneous storage, shall not be gridded.

I can't find anything that limits my capacity. So, the 750 gallon and 60
second trips don't come into play, but I still have the 30% penalty and the
limit to tree or looped. Does this sound right?

Thanks!

Subject: Preaction: single vs double

We have a cold storage warehouse where the owner wants a preaction system.
The piping will run in a heated, combustible concealed space above the
cooler/freezer. The cooler will be supplied with dry pendent sprinklers.
There is going to be a capacity issue with this system if it is double
interlock. If we go with single interlock, doesn't the capacity issue go
away? Because this is storage, I believe we will still need to have the 30%
increase in design area, correct?? Also, can I grid a single interlock
preaction system protecting a storage occupancy?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Travis
