Todd;
They ran a 6" main from the fire pump room to the new building and up to the
4th floor with FDV's and FCV's on each floor. The common wall (triple layer
brick) was cut open at each floor to open it to the existing hallways and
they put in self closing fire doors (like the new stairway). I mentioned in
my reports that this may be an issue and they followed up by questioning it.
There are rooms on the 2nd-4th floors and a restaurant that opens to the
lobby (with fire doors). I'm not sure now.

Tom, I'm assuming you mean that the building connects, not the FP
systems. Are there fire doors or other separation between the two
buildings? Chapter 5 of the MA Building Code is not very specific,
but my guess is since the this is an addition, it is treated by the
building code as a separate building with a common wall. If that is
the case, then the single feed would be appropriate. It would go back
to how the building addition was classified when it was designed and
accepted by the AHJ.
